Dark Creative Electronics
Drew Lyon is an Auckland-based musician and the creative force behind the electro-industrial project Creassault, which he founded in 1996. Over nearly three decades he has developed a distinctive artistic voice, evolving from collaborative beginnings into a versatile solo project noted for its dark, atmospheric, and deliberately aggressive electronic soundscapes.
“My ambition with Creassault isn't necessarily about mainstream fame; it’s about creative autonomy and keeping a niche culture alive in a relatively small market like New Zealand.
This project pushes back against "easy" or commercial electronic music, and committing itself to authenticity while prioritizing the art and the underground community.”
Synthesizer enthusiast: I am deeply involved in the local synthesizer community and regularly engage with fellow hardware practitioners. I have been featured by the Sine Community on Instagram and maintains strong ties to Auckland’s broader electronic hardware scene, often showcasing intricate Eurorack setups and modular experimentation.
Performance style: My live shows as Creassault are typically hardware-driven, intentionally avoiding "laptop sets" in favor of tactile, hands-on electronic performances. These sets emphasize experimental textures and improvisation, frequently exploring themes of dark fantasy, horror, and visceral sonic intensity.
